Canadian manufacturers are currently facing labour shortages due to the lack of Canadian citizens or permanent residents available to fill open positions. To address this issue, the federal government established the Temporary Foreign Workers Program (TFWP) to assist Canadian employers in finding workers with specialized skills when suitable candidates cannot be found among the local population. Employers who hire temporary foreign workers must provide them with health insurance that covers the waiting period for provincial healthcare eligibility. While the legal requirement is to cover workers for this waiting period, many employers are offering coverage for the entire duration of the workers' contracts to attract and retain talent.
