The Importance and Benefit of Networking

At EMC’s Future of Manufacturing, Advantage through Excellence Conference in October of 2019, Darrin Mitchell from Trout River Industries, was so impressed with the content presented at the “Are you prepared to grow? Will your ERP system accommodate your growth needs?” session hosted by David Webster and Brad Fisher of Baytech Plastics that he made a point of speaking with the presenters at the end of the session.

The discussion between David and Darrin following the session resulted in a plan to get together to discuss the benefits of using a good Financial system and process for fast and more accurate reporting. Later that fall, Darrin put their plan into action, subsequently flying to Toronto from his home in PEI, and ventured to the home of Baytech Plastics in Midland. By coincidence and good fortune, Darrin’s visit to Baytech Plastics happened to coincide with the EMC Senior Managers’ Strategic Interest Group (SIG) meeting; being held at Baytech Plastics that very morning.  Dave recognizing the opportunity, asked Darrin if he would consider talking to the group. As a result, Darrin attended the Best Practice/Challenge/Roundtable Networking SIG and was invited to speak to the group about his establishment, Trout River Industries, in PEI.

David and Brad’s presentation at the conference addressed the topics of 1-day financial reporting, credit insurance and asset-based lending in such a way that it made a long-time financial question come clear to Darrin. In return for the knowledge he gained, Darrin felt it appropriate to share some tried and true, successful marketing and sales strategies he has used to significantly grow his business. He presented his approach in a knowledgeable and entertaining way.  Both parties involved in this information exchange were able to learn a great deal from one another.

What a great example of how Networking at an EMC conference and at an EMC SIG can spark beneficial business connections and the sharing of Best Practices between members, both locally and even across provinces.

We look forward to seeing you at our next SIG event!
