How to Pivot Your Company During a Pandemic

We were fortunate to be joined by Cam Duggan, of Bellwyck Packaging Solutions during our July Strategic Interest Group.

We kept a “summer format” by using a casual interview style approach to the discussion.

Cam shared numerous insights around how the team at Bellwyck in Owen Sound rallied together to bring what was initially just an idea to life.

When I asked Cam why he believed the team was so supportive of the idea, he said it was because there was a clear recognition amongst everyone that this product, a custom designed face shield, would help everyone during these difficult times.

Although the product was outside of the normal product line that Bellwyck produced, the entire team, from design through production worked together to determine how to make it would fit within their existing production capabilities.

As far as questions to consider when identifying the best-fit product, Cam shared the following considerations:

  • Is there current and long-term demand?
  • Will the product fit within existing production capabilities?
  • Can the product be brought to market quickly?
  • Is there someone else who has designed/implemented a similar product you can learn from?
  • Is the product complimentary?
