Owen Sound & Area: 2019 In Review

What a fantastic year the Owen Sound and Area Consortium had! With a full calendar of events, our members had plenty of opportunities to connect and share, learn and discuss their biggest challenges, and greatest successes.

Our monthly SIG events touched on topics related to Automation, Employee Attraction and Retention, as well as the latest trends in Safety and Wellness. We also brought in some of our long standing (and enjoyable) speakers such as Elizabeth Traynor from Siskinds who shared some of the most recent case law and updates for our members, as well as Jim Farmer, who provided an excellent session on Electrical and Machine Safety.

In addition to our monthly events, members also had the opportunity to meet and learn more about and share feedback on the development of the new Innovation Hub being developed in Owen Sound at the former Sydenham school, as well as hear from local Economic Development leaders on the challenges both Grey and Bruce County are facing, and the strategies they are employing to ensure we continue to attract and retain top talent.

Many of our members also had the opportunity to get involved in our Manufacturing Essentials Certification Program, helping their employees better adopt and apply critical skills in communications, lean and problem solving, and resulting in significant impacts on their business through the workplace performance projects that exist within the program.

We have a great year planned for 2020, kicking off at Transcontinental with a SIG event on Proactive and Reactive Maintenance planning. For more information checkout our online events at https://www.emccanada.org/events
