We had a great turn out for our virtual Owen Sound and Area event this past week, where Debbie Bodkin, Mental Health First Aid expert, shared with our members some key insights as well as answered questions to help them maintain their mental health, and that of their employees.

Debbie shared that our current circumstances affect everyone differently, and therefore business leaders and human resources should be prepared to spend additional time with their people to help mitigate stress or tension they might be feeling.

Additionally, Debbie shared several strategies that can be introduced to improve the working situation for others, including:

  • For those working virtually it’s important to create a working space that’s comfortable.
  • Having a routine is important, to be able to have a sense of normality in our lives.
  • Taking frequent breaks allows us the chance to get some fresh air and reduce our stress level.

Lastly, Debbie shared the importance of maintaining some sort of exercise protocol, ensure you get enough sleep and eat healthy, all of which will support a positive mental state.

Join us in June as we discuss the impact of COVID-19 on internal policies and procedures. More information can be found on the Owen Sound and Area event calendar.
