Lean 2.0: Stabilize, Sustain and Grow

June 19, 2019 Shawn CasemoreNorthern Ontario 25 Views

During this months Northern Ontario Cluster events, our members in North Bay, Sudbury and Muskoka were fortunate to have a great presentation by Chad Metcalfe, owner of Value Stream Solutions.

Chad shared examples of how many manufacturers are struggling with capitalizing on the long term benefits of lean, often the result of time, various competing priorities and of course, the loss of key lean champions.

Members participated in the presentation by sharing challenges they have faced, specifically in getting their employees and team members to fully embrace lean and recognize it as a new way of thinking, versus a one-time initiative.

Some of the key highlights of Chad’s presentation included:

  • The importance of having a clear and shared vision.
  • Clearly defining roles and responsibilities when it comes to lean.
  • Identifying, understanding and selecting the right lean tools at the right time.
  • Engaging employees in the value of lean as something that will help them.

Several members in Sudbury and Muskoka also went on to complete their final training in Lean Management System, a program that helps manufacturers introduce the key concepts and tools necessary to grow and sustain participation in lean.
