We are facing unprecedented times for manufacturers considering the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the greatest challenges our members are facing is how to deal with their employees amidst the closures, government legislation and constant change.

Considering these challenges we quickly pulled together a presentation with Siskinds, LLP, to help answer member questions around the rights and obligations that manufacturer have when it comes to their employees.

Key points that were highlighted during the presentation included:

  • Can I ask an employee if they’ve been exposed to or diagnosed with COVID-19?
  • How to protect other employees from someone who may have been exposed.
  • The importance of a case-by-case analysis for each employee impacted.
  • When approving a leave of absence makes sense for employees.
  • What are my duties to accommodate during a pandemic?
  • Obligations employers have when it comes too social distancing.
  • What to do if an employee refuses to come to work.

If you would like a copy of the presentation, please send me an email scasemore@emccanada.org and I’d be happy to share it.
