GTA and Area: 2019 In Review

Joining EMC this past October, just in time for the Advantage Through Excellence - Future of Manufacturing National Conference, was one of the highlights of my year.  During the 3-day conference, I had the rare opportunity of meeting the entire EMC team, our community partners, and many of our valuable members from across Canada.  The positive energy and interactions during the event were overwhelmingly positive, the presentations were truly engaging and, while I expect that every job would have inevitable challenges, I felt right at home immediately! It is truly a great honour and privilege to be part of the EMC team as FSA for the GTA/York and Brampton/Mississauga/Caledon/Orangeville Consortiums in an area with one of the most diverse and highest density of manufacturers in Canada!

It has only been a couple of months since I started and, during this time, I have been trying to get up to speed on the past activities and interests of our members.  The 2019 SIG events covered a variety of topics, including the very hot subject of Marijuana in the Workplace, updates on the WSIB Rate Framework, automation, and also included some plant tours.  We thank our 2019 presenters and hosts for sharing their knowledge and inviting our members into their facilities:

Thank you also to everyone who attended our sessions.  SIG events are key to the success of our Consortiums and we cannot do it without your support!

We also extend a warm welcome to the new members who joined us in 2019:

Since I started, I have been visiting our members at their facilities to best understand their priorities and how I can best support their teams through EMC’s value-add programs in safety, energy, training, purchasing, cybersecurity, funding, risk management, and export, as well as through our SIG events.  For 2020, I am planning a diversity of topics to encompass many functions from the manufacturing world, including employee wellness and mental health, automation, predictive and preventive maintenance programs, smart manufacturing, and sustainability practices, among many others.  2020 is going to be an exciting year, and I look forward to working with you!

Best wishes for the holidays, and may the coming year be full of successes for everyone!
