Another year has ended!

One of the reasons I enjoy my job so much is to be witness to the camaraderie, growth, and light bulb moments within the Strategic Interest Group sessions (SIGs) – and, of course, it is the folks that attend these sessions that make this happen.

In Eastern Ontario, your willingness to share and support one another has been outstanding! We have many local areas in our Region. Whitby, Quinte, Napanee, Kingston, Brockville, Ottawa, Pembroke, Perth, Smiths Falls, Arnprior, and Carleton Place. My first year serving you has made me feel very welcome to the Region. As you may or may not know I was an EMC member for over 15 years and now I am thoroughly enjoying this role and the opportunity to support you and your businesses.

The SIG topics covered during the past year included:

  • Ministry of Labour updates with the changes in legislation from the Ford government
  • Health and safety focus sessions
  • Recruitment/retention was a big challenge for all to which we spoke to our aging workforce and the challenges of the Millennial generation.
  • Export Development
  • Energy Management
  • Support of Leadercast

A couple of highlights for me, personally, were to tour Prysmian Cables again with a large group of EMC members and guests and listen to John Edwards provide an excellent tour and presentation, the Durham Region Economic update breakfast and certainly the excellent Job Fair hosted by Proctor and Gamble.

Importantly, I thank you for all that you did last year, hosted our events, attended our training sessions, and shared much needed information to our members. So – here is a shout out to you all.  Kudos go to you for attending and hosting the SIGs and your willingness to share and to assist one another.  This is what makes our manufacturers world class and what makes EMC so successful

We continue to grow and to that end a warm welcome to the Ross Video who joined us this year.

May you all have time over the next couple of weeks to enjoy the holiday season and to connect with family and friends to welcome in the new year.
