Acquiring & Retaining Employees - SW Ontario SIG Event

On Wednesday March 20th, EMC Manufacturing Members from across Southern Ontario gathered at Centerline in Windsor to share best practices and benchmark around training and employee development.

Attracting and retaining employees is a pressing issue manufacturers currently face. This was a very timely and welcomed topic. EMC Members from as far as Tillsonburg, London and Chatham made the trip to Centerline to hear about some of the great things they are doing internally to address their employee growth and development needs.

Centerline detailed the steps they have taken to go above and beyond.  They are providing employees with opportunities to acquire the skills they need to be successful in their jobs so that Centerline can grow. Centerline actively reaches out to secondary and post secondary educational institutions to engage youth as potential new employees. Centerline’s knowledge, ability to navigate and find all opportunities available to them is truly impressive. They have left no opportunities for funding unexplored and have explored all available programs around employee development. One thing that really stood out with those in attendance was Centerline’s work towards getting women involved in skilled trades. Their overall in-house skilled trades training opportunities were great to see.

Our next SW Ontario SIG Event will be on April 16th, at Enviroshake in Chatham. Enviroshake will be sharing their best practices around the Predictive Maintenance/POD Program. Enviroshake has reduced their unscheduled down time 30% by breaking their operation into manageable and cohesive Pod’s for PM’s. Enviroshake will highlight and share how they successfully implemented this program at their facility. A plant tour focusing on these activities is included in this event. Those attending will be asked to participate in a group Continuous Improvement exercise where they will be asked to identify 3 things they saw on the tour that impressed them and 3 things they saw that could possibly be improved. We will share these observations with the host before we leave in the spirit of Continuous Improvement.

To RSVP for this session just let me know!

Thanks!
