Attendance Management

1 Day Classroom Program

Section 1 - THE BIG PICTURE
Covers corporate financial developments that have made AM a priority at many companies, the demographic and psychographics segments in our workforce that make AM challenging.

Section 2 - CALCULATING THE COSTS
We review all the cost variables and show participants by a case example how to run the cost numbers through a spreadsheet. Many participants in the past have roughed out their own numbers in this session.

Section 3 - LEGAL FRAMEWORK
Covers the common law view of the employment relationship, WSIB, ESA & Human Rights Code as well as the Privacy Legislation with a focus on short term absence, non-culpable absenteeism and their implications for termination strategies. Includes updates in Human Rights legislation and recent civil cases for termination and accommodation.

Section 4 - MEDICAL MANAGEMENT
This section provides an overview of medical conditions using diagnosis, prognosis and normal recovery periods to help interpret medical information that is used to substantiate medical absences. Particular emphasis is paid to managing anxiety, depression, somatoform disorders and pshychotraumatic disability. This is an area where George Kairys the facilitator has considerable expertise (he has represented employers at a WSIB Hearings where the worker was claiming chronic pain disability and post traumatic stress disorder).

Section 5 - POLICY AND PROCEDURES
This section outlines how to develop policy and procedures that fit the issues identified in the previous sections for each participant's workplace and provides a template that participates can use as a detailed guide to developing or updating their own policies and procedures.

Section 6 - CASE STUDIES
There is no better way to sharpen skills for managing absenteeism than case studies. We usually deal with 5 cases from our numerous case files and encourage participants to present cases of their own. This is a very popular section and produces a high level of interaction.

This is one of the most comprehensive 'Attendance Management' Programs offered in Canada and we are proud to have developed it and especially enjoy the groups we have conducted for EMC.
