Much has been going on in the world as we still wait with anxiety, and as schools have reconvened. I know EMC has been steadily communicating with you all and the resources to support you.

I have been contacting many of you and I am hearing to a person – the need for clarity regarding the pandemic challenge that seems to be heading into a second wave. To that end I have been requested to facilitate a Zoom session by the local health unit in Eastern Ontario.

Our date for this session is Thursday October 15, 2020. I realize this is truly short notice, but I feel this session’s focus is pertinent and very timely.

The agenda is noted below. To round out the session fully I have also secured an excellent employment lawyer to provide their guidance in the challenges we face. To have both perspectives in this one-hour Zoom Session with Q&A’s will truly be worth your limited and valuable time.

Please let me know by return email your interest in attending.

Zoom Session: Thursday October 15, 2020 8:30 am until 10 am – Q&A session

Agenda: 30 to 45 minutes each

Jane Lyster, Director Community Health Protection, Kim McCann – Sr. Public Health Inspector and Debbie McIntyre - Infectious Disease Specialist

  • Health Unit presentation - LGLDHU recently put together an information document for employers regarding public health measures to have in place in anticipation of a COVID 19 case within the business.  There are clear roles which need to be followed to ensure the smooth handling of outbreaks within businesses. Our guest will speak to this information and provide guidance for everyday challenges.
    • In advance of the session the Health Unit has asked to request questions from the industry audience – when you email to register – please supply any question(s) you may have.

Nigel McKechnie, Employment Lawyer, Mann Lawyers; Ottawa and Perth

  • With shifting government messaging about COVID-19 changing daily, employer and employee obligations are becoming increasingly difficult to discern. This session will cover topics such as work refusals, eligibility for infectious disease leave, screening, and other workplace topics. It will also deal with the rollout of new government benefits and changes to the EI regime.

In closing I look forward to seeing you on October 15th – email me directly and I will send the respective Zoom invite.
