Manufacturers and industry stakeholders in Northern Ontario are learning that productivity gains can be rapidly achieved with Lean Management. They are participating in EMC’s Lean Management System Program, through funding support from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario (FedNor). The program teaches participants how a Lean Management System (LMS) is essential to helping better identify, manage and sustain improvement within their business.
EMC's Lean Management System program (LMS) consists of 10 powerful modules of learning sessions, class discussion, personalized coaching sessions and available consulting assistance. The initial session, Module 1 took place the 2nd week of April in Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and North Bay.
So what's a Lean Management System? It's all about providing industry professionals the enhanced expertise, tools and resources needed to effectively integrate productivity improvements into their management practices. It’s the ability to accelerate and manage continuous change, better manage metrics, and build employee accountability to create a culture for ongoing improvement. This in turn provides long-term productivity improvements, competitive gains and positive bottom-line impact! It's a combination of activities and processes that ensure Lean methods and practices are implemented, sustained and improved upon! These include…
- Learning to be a Sensei versus a Manager
- Implementing Visual Management and Controls
- Developing processes for Accountability
- Identifying and designing Leader Standard Work
- Gemba Walks
- Problem Solving
- Empowering People
During the program participants are identifying and implementing improvement projects based on their specific needs and expecting to achieve project ROI ranging from $25,000 to $100,000 per project! This Northern Ontario program is designed and follows on the success of EMC’s pilot Lean Management program in the Brockville region. Participating manufacturers in the pilot reported significant annual ROI ranging from $50,000 to $400,000+.
