Manufacturers and industry stakeholders in Northern Ontario are learning the enhanced expertise, tools and resources needed for greater productivity success, to grow and become more competitive. They are participating in EMC’s Productivity Management & Clusters initiative. This two-year no cost program is provided through funding support from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario (FedNor).
EMC's Productivity Management & Clusters initiative consists of quarterly briefing and learning events in Thunder Bay, Timmins, Muskoka and Parry Sound districts. The initial events which just wrapped up in April were well attended by over 60 manufacturers and industry stakeholders.
The April events focused on “Understanding non-value waste activities in your business practices”. The participants were introduced to tools for identifying and countering these wastes:
- visual workplace management
- value stream mapping
- customer focused workplace organization
- effective problem solving
Over the next 2 years, the half-day events will provide participants with a foundation to implement and sustain productivity improvements within their organizations. Future events will focus on: Leadership and Culture for Productivity Improvement, Productivity Tools, and Productivity Management Systems. The next events are scheduled to take place in June.
The coach and mentor for EMC's Productivity Management & Clusters initiative is Chad Metcalf of Value Stream Solutions www.valuestreamsolutions.com
