2017 was a year of many changes for the EMC Safety Group Program; we received a new WSIB representative, our dear colleague and friend Laura Rourke accepted a position with one of our Safety Group members, and the rebate calculation has been changed to remove frequency and severity, much to our benefit. Despite these changes, the Safety Group program continues to offer tremendous value to our members.
In the Core program, ladder safety and psychological health & safety were added in 2017 to give members even more choice when selecting their elements. For the Advantage group, we created a number of templates to help with completing audits and keeping track of the required documentation. For both Core and Advantage, we added many new policy samples to get you started on the right track.
While we were sad to see our friend Laura Rourke leave after playing such an important part in EMC’s and our members success, we were so happy that she was able to land a position close to home so that she doesn’t have to spend as much time on the road away from her family. I think I speak for everyone when I say that Laura made a truly positive impression on our lives and businesses that we are all grateful for. Her passion for safety and the wellbeing of our members was the embodiment of the EMC spirit. In Laura’s absence, Kelly Killby has worked tirelessly to ensure that there was no gap in service. Kelly took over presenting at the meetings, and I think everyone found her to be a great presenter. Kelly has met the challenge head on, and we hope that you continue to utilize her as the excellent resource she is. Personally, I know I send you a lot of emails and leave a lot of voicemails, but just know that I do have your best interest at heart!
On a similar note, we will have an exciting announcement about an addition to our team in early 2018, so look forward to that!
We congratulate everyone that was successful with their validation audits in 2017, but realize that the rebate situation for the 2016 year was not ideal. Thankfully, the WSIB has recognized that the old rebate calculation was not benefiting the group as a whole, and that it would have been impossible to keep pace with the necessary frequency and severity reductions for every Safety Group sponsor. For 2017 we are happy to announce that a new calculation method will be used that only uses the achievement score, something that EMC’s members have traditionally done very well on.
We know that all for all of you, safety is your number one priority. The Safety Group team at EMC makes your safety record our priority. Our goal has always been to make safety more accessible and as cost effective as possible. We hope that you were able to take away something positive from a meeting, networking with a fellow Safety Group member, on site with Kelly, working on your elements with your team, or even just contacting us by phone or email.
We wish all of you the safest holidays and the happiest New Year, and look forward to working with you all on this important work in 2018!
