Eighteen Supervisors, Lead Hands and Team Leaders met for the first time at Guildcrest Building Corporation in Morewood, Ontario to get to know one another, learn about each other's plants and to share a list of challenges and issues specific to their supervisory roles. By the end of the session they realized that though their products differ, their challenges are much the same. They would like to meet again to share best practices regarding "communication processes". The event was followed by a plant to
The major reasons that supervisors stated that they attended this event evolved around the opportunity to learn how other supervisors are coping with the day to challenges in their buildings.
Challenges and Issues discussed in detail included those surrounding the following:
- Meeting deadlines
- Wearing multiple hats
- Employee morale
- Increasing Paperwork and responsibility (Due Diligence)
- Conflict management
- Change issues & barriers
- People management issues
Major challenges for future discussion:
- Managing change
- Communication processes
- Balancing resources
- People related issues
This group would like to meet again in the near future. A detailed (though generic) summary was shared with their managers in order to gain acceptance of another SIG - possibly in May. At least one other plant in this region is interested in being involved.
