Owners and leaders from Greater Moncton and Northern NS met recently at Glenwood Kitchen in Shediac for a discussion with Darrin Mitchell of Trout River Industries.
Trout River Industries is located in Coleman PEI and, since they built their first trailer in 1999, they have become Canada’s largest live bottom trailer Manufacturer and continue to grow internationally. As a result, you can imagine the need for constant change; Darrin shared key points on how they have created change in their organization.
After an opportunity for round table sharing on the goals and challenges, Darren took a moment to recognize and thank the leaders for what they do. Without their commitment to organizational success, making the difficult decisions and sometimes being very alone, we would not have the great companies that we do. Manufacturing is a key component to economic growth and provides good solid jobs.
Throughout Darrin’s ‘sharing’ he touched on few key points that he felt were critical;
Reality Check: Ego can be your enemy. Ask others what is possible and surround yourself with those that will answer the question.
Adversity is the energy that provides opportunity; don’t accept what has been given to you.
Who cares: are the things that we are doing adding value to the company and the customer?
Become a ‘yes’ organization: empower your employees to say yes!
Multi-media; use social medial and the web as one of the most important tools you have….tell people who you are and make them want to do business with you.(Darrin elaborated in detail on this point)
Darrin further elaborated and it was a valuable message. He admits that they have learned much over the years and it has not been as simple as it may now sound and shares the experiences of both himself personally and of his company in an effort to help others; he will freely and openly accept help and any opportunity to learn from others. You might say ‘sharing and stealing with Pride’.
Darrin has offered his time for other areas of the province so stay tuned!
As an important part of the event, James McKenna of Glenwood, provided a tour of the facility.
Glenwood has been very progressive in creating an environment supporting continuous improvement and will soon be receiving automated equipment….lots of ‘take-aways’ from this tour!
As always, thank you to all who participated in this event. It was a perfect way to finish our events for 2017 and I am looking forward to more of the same in the new year.
