Your starting line is the metaphoric trophy wall of the performance evaluation realm, and although this group only represents about 10% of your population, they are consistently reaping above average praise for performing above expectation quarter-after-quarter. This must be a sign that your performance evaluation structure is working as it should, or is it? The star population are by nature self-starters. They are motivated to shine and as a result they receive the attention of the c-suite, and admiration of their peers, but they, like your bottom line depend on the second line to get results. This article argues on behalf of those average performers who are often on the losing side of evaluations and who find themselves stuck in the “average performer” rut.
