On Friday September 26th, EMC London/Oxford Region along with London Economic Development and the London Region Manufacturing Council hosted "Manufacturing Matters" at the London Convention Centre.
Over 300 people from the London Region Manufacturing Community gathered at the London Convention Centre to spend the morning networking and hearing from other local London Region Manufacturers.
The keynote was Ben Whitney, President and Owner of EMC Member company Armo Tool. Ben told the story of Armo Tool, a small privately held local Manufacturer and their journey of cutting, recovery and growth through the recent recession. Ben's presentation laid out how other companies can apply similar strategies to strengthen and grow their own business.
Following the keynote, attendee's heard from a panel of local EMC Members who discussed the "Past, Present and Future of Manufacturing in the London Region". The panel consisted of Andy Mavrokefalos of Attica Manufacturing, Denis Hartman of Transform Automotive, Mark Minnie of Harring Doors and Jaymie Crook of Bosco and Roxy's. Each panelist built on Ben Whitney's keynote detailing how each of them got through the recent downturn, what they did to survive, current opportunities and challenges as well what they need to happen to stay viable and profitable as a manufacturer in the London Region.
After the panel and a networking break the morning also included EMC London/Oxford Regions annual Ministry of Labour Update presented by David Whitney from the MOL. David presented the MOL's "Safe at Work Program" and the ministry's objectives for 2015. Following the MOL update three concurrent breakouts where held around "Legal Due Diligence for Manufacturers", presented by Siskinds the Law Firm. The breakouts covered, "Hiring and Firing", "Directors and Officers Liabilities", and "Immigration Issues for Cdn Mfg's."
This conference not only provided great information for Manufacturers but it really highlighted some of the very positive things happening in the sector right now. There was a lot of excitement and a real positive "buzz" in the room about Manufacturing in the London Region.
It was great to see so many local EMC Members at this event...we certainly set a new attendance record! The success of this event will be built on to present an even better one inthe fall of 2015. I heard from many in attendace that this should be a annual event!
If you would like any of the presentations from "Manufacturing Matters" let me know...they would include Ben Whitney's keynote, the MOL presentations and the Siskinds presentations.
