On Wednesday January 28th London/Oxford Region EMC Members met for the first local Strategic Interest Group event of 2015.
The session was at Attica Manufacturing in London with the discussion focusing on something many London/Oxford region manufacturers are dealing with - "Managing Growth". Over 45 local member companies were represented by the close to 70 people at the session, another great turn out.
Attica lead the discussion around managing growth...they are pretty qualified to share some experiences around this topic. Attica just moved from a fairly small shop in London to a much larger one in London. As well at the same time opening a manufacturing facility near Port Huron in Michigan. During both these moves Attica's business grew, which was very hard to manage as well as juggling the moves. Members got hear all the challenges Attica experienced, what they did to overcome them, what they learnt, what they would do different it they could. Discussions around treating bankers/lenders simply as vendors, using existing suppliers for setting up new plants in London and the US ensued. As well as funding available to help with growth, local economic development agencies and what they can do to help etc...it was a good discussion with lots of questions for Attica.
As well members got a in depth plant tour of Attica's new facility. During the tour members were asked to identify three things they saw on the tour that they liked and three things they thought were opportunities for improvement at Attica. We presented these observations to Attica before we left.
Overall another great session...coming up in the London/Oxford Region;
Feb 11th 5pm to 7pm - Fanshawe College/Workforce Development
Feb 25th 8am to 1030am - London Machinery/Member Best Practice with Plant Tour
