On October 18th members of the London/Oxford Region Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium open there doors for local high school students. Local Plants hosted tours, exposing youth to all the great career opportunities in the manufacturing sector. Close to 500 kids visited the plants, the goal, getting youth interested in careers in the sector. Finding employees is and will continue to be one of, if not the biggest challenge manufacturers are and will be facing. Members highlighted shop floor jobs, skilled trades and all other jobs including; HR, H&S, Management, Accounting, Controllers, Designers, Quality etc...The kids started each tour with a presentation on what the plant makes, what they do, then they took a great plant tour.
This is a great annual event in the London/Oxford region, we have been doing to 6 or 7 years and it grows in popularity every year! About 15 local high schools participated. Tours this year were in London, Strathroy, Ingersoll, Woodstock, Tillsonburg, St Thomas & Thorndale. This years hosts were;
