On October 5th The Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium, partnered with the London Economic Development Corporation and the London Region Manufacturing Council, hosting the 2017 edition of the London Regions Manufacturing Matters Event.
This years edition of this annual event saw over 600 folks from the London/Oxford/Elgin Manufacturing community gather at the London Convention Centre to celebrate the local manufacturing sector. This annual event has turned into the largest event, just for manufacturers, in Canada!
Attendee's enjoyed a great breakfast Keynote from former CEO of Toyota Canada and current Advisor to the Federal Government on Automotive Policy, Mr Ray Tanguay...Mr Tanguay's excellent keynote presentation has been posted on the London/Oxford Consortium home page, which you can find by following this link;
After the Keynote address, Sr Managers from 3 London Region EMC Member Companies, London Machinery, Starlim NA & Nestle Canada participated in a facilitated panel discussion around what is happening at their businesses, manufacturing in the London region & Canada in general, current & future opportunities & challenges.
Post panel discussion, attendee's had the opportunity to attend a impressive selection of breakout sessions covering all sorts of topics relevant to manufacturers today. Including funding opportunities, Ministry of Labour Updates, Legal Due Diligence for Mfg Updates and many more. As well this year a "tech showcase" was included featuring 7 London Region Tech Companies working strictly in the manufacturing sector.
EMC and it partners were very pleased to be able to provide this great event to EMC Members at no cost, due to the great support from London region service providers generously sponsoring & exhibiting at the event.
October continues to be a very active month for EMC Members in the London/Oxford Region. On October 18th about 500 local high school students will be touring about 40 local EMC Member facilities. This is a great way to help get youth interested in careers in Manufacturing. On October 24th we have a great session planned at Great Lakes Copper in London, featuring a discussion around proposed legislation increasing minimum wage and other proposed changes to the provinces employment and labour laws.
