Members from the London/Oxford Region Consortium of EMC have been out on-mass for two SIG sessions in May.
We visited Tigercat Industries in Woodstock for our first session. Tigercat designs and manufacturers premium heavy duty equipment for the forestry sector...big stuff! Tigercat showed off their "first in-first out" (FIFO) process on their cab line. After a overview of the process, why they did it, how they did it, before and after results etc...we went down to their cab line to see it first hand live! After this we continued to tour the whole facility than regrouped in their cafeteria to discuss what we saw and identify 3 things folks saw that they liked and 3 things they thought Tigercat could improve on. We presented these findings to the hosts before we left...some great outside feedback for Tigercat they greatly appreciated. Very impressive facility and what they have accomplished.
Out next session brought us to another heavy duty equipment manufacturer...London Machinery Inc (LMI) in London. LMI designs and manufacturers the tumblers on cement trucks. It was really neat to see a long line of cement trucks being assembled though the Plant. LMI shared their "single order flow" process. After a brief overview in the cafeteria we spent most of the session on their plant floor. After as we did a Tigercat we assembled to review what we saw and provide feedback to the host. Another very impressive facility.
Two very good sessions, with over 100 local members participating! Thanks to both Tigercat and London Machinery for hosting.
We have a couple good events planned for June...
First up a Senior Managers session at John Paul II High school in London. We will be visiting their new manufacturing lab, leaning about the courses they offer and perhaps come up with some ways we can support these programs as a group. Also at this session the Dean's office from Fanshawe College's Faculity of Technolgy will be joining us. All the manufacturing programs at Fanshawe fall under this department. We are going to take about a hour and particpate in their "Program Advisory Council" meeting. This is when they ask local manufacturers about what their needs are, who they are hiring, what type of people they think they will need in the future...Fanshawe needs this very important information to develop the right courses to provide you with the qualified people you need to grow. Important session...
Secondly we will having a session on "Things to Consider when Thinking about Automation". This is developing into a pretty neat session...Local EMC Member Clockwork Automation will be leading this session. We may (it is in the works to be confirm soon) taking a little "field trip" away from a Plant for this session. Clockwork just designed, made & installed all the automation that the YMCA uses at their downtown London facility that raises and lowers one of their large pools. We are hoping to be able to actually go see this, it will just be installed and operating. Keep an eye out for this session invite over the next couple weeks.
Thanks so much for your continues support. I you are interested in either of the up coming session in June send me a note at
