The development of square watermelons in Japan several years ago lends well to thinking beyond the proverbial box and challenges us all to look for the next creative opportunity in our problem solving endeavours!

Appreciating the learning that takes place in our educational systems and particularly the input from manufacturers across Canada to provide innovative learning forums, tools, samples, speakers, best practices and mentorship to provoke thought, stimulate ideas and excite minds about getting involved in manufacturing operations today.

Manufacturers, Processors and Growers in the Food and Beverage Industry provided over seven million pounds of food industry donations which were distributed across Canada equating to a dollar value of almost $14 million in 2008 alone according to the Food Banks Canada website. As costs continue to increase and economic conditions create challenges for those most vulnerable, the need to raise hunger awareness and to support the growing need for Food Banks across Canada is of great importance.

We all want to develop better teams, build better plants, generate better ideas, produce better products and in turn we trust that we are helping to build better "Communities" – not only at home, but within our industry, through associations, with our peers and so on.
