It is with pleasure that I read a recent article about one of our newest EMC Food Sector Members - Tillsonburg Custom Foods (TCF) - located in Tillsonburg, Ontario. The article below which appeared in the Spring 2009 edition of the Tillsonburg Economic Development Newsletter demonstrates the importance of partnerships and community relationships and in this case certainly helped to nuture and develop the "entrepreneurial spirit"! We wish Tillsonburg Custom Foods much success in their endeavours.
Tilsonburg Economic Development Newsletter - Spring 2009:
The Town of Tillsonburg is pleased to welcome Tillsonburg Custom Foods as the newest member of its manufacturing business community. Tillsonburg Custom Foods (TCF) is a Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) certified facility that processes individually quick frozen poultry for sale to a number of food chains. They are planning to expand their product line and sales across Canada and are also actively investigating export markets for their products.
TCF is a new company that has been formed by Ed Lamers, a Tillsonburg resident and a Chartered Accountant. "We are pleased to be starting our new business in Tillsonburg" says President Ed Lamers, "we believe that the building and the community will provide all that we need to thrive and grow and we look forward to contributing to the economic base of the Town". "We would also like to thank the staff at the Multi-Service Centre for their support as we started our operations", adds Mr. Lamers, "their assistance made it easier and we look forward to continuing to work with them".
TCF is operating at 20 Vance Dr, which was formerly used by Otter Valley Foods as well as a number of other companies. Tillsonburg Custom Foods is leasing the 22,000 sq. ft. building from E&E McLaughlin Warehousing. They employed 12 people at startup and now employ 20 and expect this number to grow to 40 over the next year.
Tillsonburg has long-standing reputation as a community with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and supporting increased startups is a key objective of the Town's Economic Development Department.
"The most important indicator of the future health of a municipality is the strength of its entrepreneurial spirit, which is a characteristic that must be imbedded in every aspect of the community", says Development Commissioner Cephas Panschow.
"In this regard, the startup by TCF is a welcome development and we wish them success and prosperity as they embark on this endeavour".
Special Thanks to Cephas Panschow, Development Commissioner, Town of Tillsonburg and Ed Lamers, President of Tillsonburg Custom Foods (TCF), for sharing this article and photos with us!
