Our hot summer months are quickly coming to an end; however, September will be "sizzling" with two timely networking opportunities for those in the Food and Beverage Sector. The focus will be on Sustainable Strategies and on Supply Chain Management and both sessions will look at the role of Lean and it's methodologies to help identify potential opportunities and improve efficiencies.
Lean is substantially about our processes in all key function areas of our businesses and streamlining them such that we are not creating bottlenecks, underutilizing resources, or diminishing our productivity, etc. It is all about driving out waste - in defects, overproduction, waiting, transportation, inventory, motion, extra processing or non-utilized talents - and the principles could apply to any manufacturer, any office, even your garage at home! This fall, we will be keeping these concepts in mind as we delve into the opportunities that lean could provide from a business competitiveness perspective when it comes to developing Sustainable Strategies in an effort to become Clean, Green and Lean and to building and strengthening our Supply Chains with this same methodology.
Sustainable Strategies for Lean Initiatives, Energy Management and Reducing Your Carbon Footprint - Clean, Green and Lean
18-Sep-12 • Bradford, ON
Manufacturing customers are becoming greater advocates for green and sustainable businesses, searching out opportunities to purchase from environmentally responsible suppliers. It is essential for companies to look at ways to become more efficient and cognizant of producing products in an environmentally friendly way. During this special networking event, we will look at both sides of the energy meter, as well as strategies for reducing your carbon footprint and adding "Green" to your value stream.
Our Guest Speaker, Chad Metcalf, President, Value Stream Solutions, will utilize case studies and experience to share thoughts and encourage discussion on "Applying Lean Principles to Green Initiatives". This topic opens the door so-to-speak and enables us to explore the importance lean can play in sustainability initiatives and in particular the opportunities that come by adding green to your value stream map to aid in identification of ongoing, continuous improvement activities.
Supporting a Clean, Lean and Green perspective, Scott McNeil-Smith, Director of Marketing & Development for EMC Canada, will be examining the current and future state of Ontario's energy market and will be looking at ways in which EMC Energy Group Members are accessing expertise and strategy recommendations for better energy and cost management. Our Guest Speaker will also explore some of the sustainable energy tactics companies are utilizing and discuss ways in which we can reduce our carbon footprint.
We are very pleased to be partnering with the Nottawasaga Community Futures Development Corporation and the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury on this special event which is scheduled for September 18th, 2012 from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm at the Bradford Library in the beautiful Town of Bradford!
As the first event provides us with an opportunity to think about our companies from an environmentally responsible perspective - including how we purchase from suppliers and produce our own products - our second topic is quite complementary, and deals with Supply Chain Management in particular - looking specifically at the impact lean can have in improving those processes to strengthen our business opportunities.
