There is something about starting a brand new year – like opening that first page of a book you have always wanted to read – knowing that with each page you turn, something exciting is bound to be revealed in the lines that follow – enticing you to read on, to try something new, to think beyond our norm and experiment or participate vicariously in the adventure outlined before us. And, just as those pages breed excitement for us at EMC so too does announcing our upcoming 2016 Food Sector Events! Opportunities abound for fresh perspectives, new discussions and exploration of interesting processes and technologies! Every event presents a different “story” and personally, I cannot wait to start turning the pages!
With collaboration and learning foremost in mind, the next Chapter of our activities lays the groundwork for everything related to Food Safety. A timely summit, a peer networking event and a two-day forum provide interesting opportunities for anyone interested in building better practices, connecting with experts and suppliers, and joining in panel and roundtable discussions on a topic that affects every food and beverage manufacturer across Canada.
On February 25th, 2016, we are delighted to be exhibiting at the NSF-GFTC Canadian Food Safety Forum being held at the Pearson Convention Centre in Brampton. This is always an excellent day-long event that focuses on timely Food Safety issues and offers a perfect opportunity to award those companies who have demonstrated excellence in their food safety endeavours. To learn more about attending this wonderful event, please visit their site by clicking on the following link: http://www.gftc.ca/courses-and-training/course-details.aspx?course=TRS079.
This will be followed by our first 2016 EMC Food Sector Event on March 2nd kindly hosted by GreenField Ethanol Inc. in Chatham featuring best practices around Food Safety, Quality and SQF Accreditation by Thompsons Limited of Blenheim. This will be a wonderful opportunity to learn about a working food safety and quality model, what is involved in an SQF journey (interestingly, Thompsons was the first grain elevator to obtain SQF Level 3 accreditation!), gather some practical tips, and examine culture essentials! We hope you can join us!
Keeping with the theme of Food Safety, later this spring, we will be spending a full two days at the 12th Annual North American Food Safety Summit at the Old Mill in Toronto! There are countless speakers, great best practices, interesting panel discussions and wonderful exhibitors to connect with. Mark your calendar for April 20th and 21st, 2016 and to gather additional information, just click on the link or type: http://www.foodsafetycanada.com/.
As you read the Chapter outline, you will be excited to know that our story covers many elements including Food Safety and SQF Journey’s (as mentioned above), Conveyor and Line Control Solutions, Risk Management, Heat and Power Cogeneration Opportunities, etc. – these are just a few of the subjects tabled to date!
A quick peak down this list brings us to April 5th, 2016 (definitely a date to note in your calendar) - we are pleased to be visiting with Descon Conveyor Systems where participants will explore current production environments and challenges, learn about emerging industry trends with conveyors, controls and communication networks! Another awesome peer to peer networking experience!
There are many other exciting EMC Food Sector Networking Chapters to explore as the year unfolds – more to come on that! On behalf of everyone participating in these particular sessions, I would like to give a shout out to all of our Hosts who so warmly welcome us and to those sharing their “stories” with us! We also truly appreciate those who bring a challenge to the table for discussion inviting input and dialogue from their peers around the table. Our Schedule is continually in process and we invite you to check the Calendar in the Food Sector Portion of the website regularly for updates: https://www.emccanada.org/group_spaces/foodsector/calendar
Well into our storyline, you will find a separate invitation to take part in a wonderful line-up of GF2 Productivity Workshops which are scheduled this spring and fall. These are free sessions open to Food and Beverage Processors or anyone directly supporting the industry interested in learning more about lean and lean methodologies:
03-May-16 – Leadership and Culture for Productivity Improvement/Productivity and Lean Tools (Stratford)
04-May-16 - Leadership and Culture for Productivity Improvement/Introduction to Lean Management Systems (GTA)
05-May-16 - Leadership and Culture for Productivity Improvement/Productivity and Lean Tools (Belleville)
Finally, I have left a special brightly coloured blue sticky note at the start of the next Chapter! Just as the beautiful weather approaches, we invite all of our Members and Manufacturers across Canada to join us in Niagara Falls for our second EMC Energy Management Summit: Where Efficiency Meets Profitability to be held in partnership with CIPEC and NRCAN. All I can tell you is that this will be a fabulous, fabulous event that you do not want to miss!! We are currently working on a Food Sector Panel and perhaps some supplementary tours as well! May 17th and 18th, 2016 – Sheraton at the Falls – Niagara Falls!! (https://www.emccanada.org/group_spaces/energy_summit)
WISHING YOU A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR, FILLED WITH NEW ADVENTURES, NEW CONNECTIONS AND NEW OPPORTUNITIES!
