It seems as though September is the start of a new year, not January, at least as far as back to school and back to Strategic Interest Group sessions go.
The Barrie/Midland and Area Consortium SIGs were, as always, interesting and informative.
The IT Group met on September 12th and discussion included everything from servers to security to cell phones. My apologies that I cannot report in detail the discussions as most of them are too technical for my ability to comprehend.
The Senior Managers gathered on the 13th at Glueckler Metal Inc. at their Elmvale plant. Discussion centred on OEE – Overall Equipment Efficiency – how it is measured and monitored. This session, also, included a plant tour as most of the attendees had not seen the Elmvale operations before.
The Quality & Production group, then, continued the discussion with looking at ways to increase the efficiency of existing equipment, making the operator more comfortable and efficient, and using technology to improve operations.
The Environmental, Health & Safety SIG met on the 12th and the topic this month was Ergonomics – Sitting/Standing desks (are they necessary and what kinds are the best) and an update in the latest in all things ergonomic including the pros and cons of ergonomic matting, when to introduce ergonomic considerations (lean events, new designs).
October will bring more sessions including another IT group session, a Human Resources session with a presentation on Living Wage Canada, a Senior Managers session on the Importance and Risks of System Upgrades, and a Quality & Production session on Responsibilities/Machine Ownership.
These sessions are all on the calendar on the EMC website and the full SIG Agenda/Invite for October is available at:
