The impact of Bill 148 continues to become more pronounced as the magnitude of the changes become apparent to manufacturers in Ontario. The complexity these changes have created continue to challenge Human Resource professionals to think and act creatively in order to accommodate and satisfy their employee’s needs, their employers needs and those of the legislation.

Barrie/Midland & Area September 2017 SIGs

By Stephanie Yakimishyn

It seems as though September is the start of a new year, not January, at least as far as back to school and back to Strategic Interest Group sessions go.

The Barrie/Midland and Area Consortium SIGs were, as always, interesting and informative.

Summer in the Life of an EMC Field Service Advisor

By Stephanie Yakimishyn

The summer hiatus is upon us. One would think, with SIG activity slowing down, we
Field Service Advisors (FSA’s) would be able to sit back and put our feet up and relax
after all the SIG sessions, member visits and other travel to events hosted by EMC during
the rest of the year (there’s a lot of them!)... However, that is not the case!

On June 8th, the Barrie/Midland & Area Consortium members gathered for our annual Labour Law Update.

Many thanks go to Ivy Eriksen and the folks at Canplas for, once again, hosting the session in their wonderful large training room. There were 31 of us at the session and the size of room allowed optimum comfort for the attendees.

Doug MacLeod and Nicole Simes from the MacLeod Law Firm were our presenters and, as in previous years, they did an excellent job in catching us up on changes and proposed changes.

Why are our Strategic Interest Groups successful?

EMC's more successful SIG events have a high level of commitment to attending and participating… from Senior Management through to the various key managers, supervisors, lead hands, and shop floor workers who are involved in the decision making process.
