Working in manufacturing over the past 20 years and being one who has been an inch wide and a mile deep in Lean Thinking, and one who is always looking for ways to create greater value for clients and partners (as a valued supplier), I wanted to emphasize to every manufacturer utilizing (or not yet utilizing) the Interactive Manufacturing Innovation Network (iMiN), (www.iminonline.ca), that Lean organizations are often looked upon as "preferred suppliers or vendors". If you're not aware of iMiN, it's a network for manufacturers wishing to communicate, collaborate, and supply to other manufacturers, and it's free for all manufacturers to join.

Tanya Vanderploeg, Director of Operations, at Club Coffee, kindly offered to host the first of a 10 part Continuous Improvement (CI) Strategic Interest Group (SIG) series, on January 16th. The training room was full and the best practices sharing and collaboration between members was exceptional! As we opened the session, the senior operations managers addressed the topic of Lean Leadership, with a four-hour SIG which was broken out into two tracks, a senior leader followed by a lean supervisor discussion, and we closed off with an excellent plant tour. The aroma in the plant was so incredible that the coffee lovers in the group were prepared to stay and work in the plant for the day!

The GTA senior HR managers met at EHC Global in Oshawa to discuss “Reward and Recognition (R&R) programs”, on January 14th. The discussions focused on how each EMC member showed their appreciation to employees for great work, continuous improvements, positive attitudes, and unity in purpose, vision and mission. Every seat was spoken for in this lively session and Pat Cole provided a terrific overview of her company’s Reward & Recognition (R&R) programs, and also provided the group with a plant tour at the close of the session.
