"The competition for talent is poise to become one of the most defined economic issue of the 21st century…"
Kristi Barnes, Director – Performance Culture with Maple Lodge Farms presented best practices for Talent Attraction and Retention.
- Identifying needs can be difficult, how do you know when employees are going to retire or what automation will you be incorporating in the next 3 years? A strategic approach to understanding current and projected headcount needs is essential.
- What gives your company a competitive advantage? This needs to be understood before you can attract great people. Look at: flexibility in hours, culture, growth opportunities.
- Now that you have hired great people, your company needs to retain them! This is all about culture! Look at work-life balance, how many emails do you receive after work and on weekends; appreciate/recognize the employees for a job well done.
- Develop your employees, it is a win-win! Demonstrate that your employees are worth it! Multiple shifts and a diverse workforce can be a challenge but investing in your employees sets the foundation for succession planning.
