Strategic Interest Groups

Peer-to-Peer Facilitated Networking, Strategic Interest Groups (SIGs)

In order to network, share and learn from each other, EMC members take turns hosting Strategic Interest Groups (SIGs).  These groups are formed based on what the members in any given area deem to be important to their business growth and development. SIG Events are high impact focused networking sessions held monthly or bi-monthly in every EMC Consortium.

There are 100's of SIG Events each year with 1000's of EMC Members attending to:

Share best practices and benchmark their organizations against other facilities
Discuss everything that happens in a manufacturing facility and participate in plant tours

Over the numerous consortium areas, the SIGs include:

CEO/Owners & Senior Managers | Quality & Production | Continuous Improvement | Environmental, Health & Safety | Information Technology | Human Resources

Share best practices and benchmark your facility with other companies!

Here's what EMC Members are saying

The SIG events have been very valuable to our company and this is one association that definitely pays for itself many times over. The plant tours and discussions on how different companies manage their processes and people have been invaluable to us as a senior management team and to me as an owner. We have determined what is important to us as a company and are now managing these items through metrics which have been borrowed from other member companies. We have increased our productivity 10%, improved on time delivery performance, and our quality improvement by more than 40%. This has all been done while maintaining a no lost time injury record of 4 years. We manage now what we measure and this has been a great tool for us, especially through the last 2 years of economic uncertainty. Over the last year I have dropped association memberships that do not add value to my company. The EMC was never considered. We are a very satisfied member. Barry Freiburger, President, George Guenzler & Sons

The "discussions" are most valuable; sometimes to realize what we need to do and other times to be assured that where we are is leading the way. Vivian Rafuse, HR Manager, GN Thermoforming Equipment

Even if I bring one improvement back that we can use or modify to fit our process is a win-win for us.  The SIG process in itself is value added and the EMC membership fee is a small price to pay for a year of available knowledge and a network of sources that can be tapped into long after the SIG. Kathy Baker, Lean Mfg Facilitator, AOC Resins

Following a SIG event an EMC Senior Manager member provided the following:
"I thought it was interesting that all the original ideas 'we' came up with today are the core ideas and history of success of EMC. Yet 'we' couldn't 'get it' until the ideas became 'ours'. It's kind of like being married. When a wife says her car needs to be fixed and her husband doesn't think so, until he drives it and it breaks down on the way to hockey. Then the car needs to be fixed!"
