Benefits of Belonging
to the EMC Co-Op
There are numerous benefits that Independent manufacturers derive from being part of the EMC Purchasing Co-operative. In general terms these benefits can be categorized into financial benefits that go straight to the bottom line, and non-financial benefits that are harder to quantify but none the less provide real value to the members.
Financial Benefits
Reduced Costs on the Products and Services your firm Purchases - The combined purchase volume of the EMC Purchasing Co-operative guarantees improved net prices paid. These savings will be passed on to the Member-owners through a combination of lower invoice pricing, quarterly rebates, annual rebates and performance related rebates.
Improved and/or Extended Payment Terms - The EMC Purchasing Co-operative often may negotiate more favourable payment terms including higher prompt pay discounts and longer standard terms than an independent manufacturer would typically receive.
Reduced Administration Time and Costs - Centralized billing through the EMC Purchasing Co-operative means that most of your purchases will be paid for by a single payment to the Co-operative, which will look after paying all of your individual Suppliers, saving time and money. Electronic web presentation of all your invoices and statements streamlines your paperwork even further.
Improved Claims Handling and Processing - The EMC Purchasing Co-operative's electronic claims processing strategy ensures that it is easy for Member-owners to submit, track and receive credits from their Preferred Suppliers. It is easy for your staff to learn the "one-way" to properly submit a claim correctly, which generates fewer errors and quicker processing. The centralized billing process used by the EMC Purchasing Co-op also ensures you always receive any credit entitlements in the current payment period.
Pool Buys - For some product categories, the EMC Purchasing Co-op will be organizing "Pool Buys." Member-owners' product requirements will be determined and their orders aggregated before sending the combined order to the Suppliers to be quoted and ultimately fulfilled. This process reduces costs for all parties, yet delivers a dependable consistent replenishment for many product lines.
Non-Financial Benefits
EMC Canada is all about collaboration and sharing ideas within their consortiums. The EMC Purchasing Co-operative will continue this approach, but will focus specifically on collaborating to bring efficiencies to the Supply Chain for Manufacturers. This will include collaborating and using the team approach to select the best preferred suppliers, sharing of new product information, hosting tradeshows with preferred suppliers.
Annual meetings with the Supplier's senior executives. Suppliers want the companies that buy / use their products to be successful at doing so. Both Members and Suppliers benefit from the sharing of knowledge that can help improve both of their top and bottom lines.
Centralized negotiating for major product categories improves results and frees the manufacturers' time to focus on other things. The EMC Purchasing Co-op is able to survey all of their Member-owners with regards to the experiences of dealing with a Supplier, have presentations from all key Suppliers vying for the Co-operative's business and have a committee of "category expert" Member-owners to determine the best supply source for all product categories. Member-owners can focus on the product categories that are the most important to them, relying on other Member-owners expertise on all the other categories.
