2010 saw EMC Members in Southwestern Ontario (London/Oxford, Chatham-Kent, Windsor/Essex) and Midwestern Ontario take full advantage of all the great tools EMC provides for its members!
Members participated in 26 SIG Events in 2010, visiting Member facilities such as:
Accuride, London
Keiper Automotive, London
Kellogg, London
JMP Engineering, London
Freudenberg-NOK, Tillsonburg
Trojan Technologies, London
Anchor Lamina, Windsor
NH Global, Chatham
Pioneer Hi-Bred, Chatham
Bonduelle, Tecumseh
IMT Corp, Ingersoll
Valiant, Windsor
OES, London
And on and on……
The group shared best practices covering everything from Kanban's, to Importing/Exporting. We discuss issues revolving around finding skilled labour and the impending labour shortage's, heard from the Ministry of Labour and brushed up on our Due Diligence around the new C168 legislation on Violence and harassment in the Workplace. We examined how a big part of a manufacturing company's success depends on "marketing", and how to prepare for the new HST. If it happened in a manufacturing facility it was discussed at SIG Events in Southwestern Ontario in 2010! Each SIG Event also included time for a Plant Tour and a Group Continuous Improvement event where participants picked out 3 things they saw that they liked on the tour and may try to implement at their own facility. They were also asked to pick out 3 things that they saw that they would perhaps look at improving. All observations were presented to the hosts.
The SIG Events in 2010 were incredibly well attended in all communities that they took place in and I have no doubt that they will continue to be in 2011.
The London/Oxford Region was very pleased to have two new expert "Bloggers" represent the area 2010. Paul Hogendoorn of OES in London and Heather Coy-Robinson of JMP Engineering in London have both signed on to Blog on the EMC Webpage, check them out in the News/Blogs section of the webpage.
Members also continued to use and support the many EMC Programs available to them. The EMC Safety group continued to provide great value for those involved. Also we saw an uptake of Member companies using the EMC SR&ED Program and the EMC Energy Group, as well as all the training available. The newest EMC Program, the EMC Purchasing Co Op also really peeked local member interest. The Purchasing Co Op has formally incorporate as it own stand alone organization with the first Chairman of the Board being Reg Wilson of Abuma Manufacturing in London.
I would like to welcome again the many new EMC Members in Southwestern Ontario and that all the other Member Companies that continue to support and participate in all the activities of their local Consortiums.
One of the most exciting things to happen in Southwestern Ontario in 2010 was the addition of EMC Field Service Advisor Jeanine Lassaline-Berglund. Jeanine will be taking care of EMC Members in Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex. Her skills are impressive; her commitment to manufacturing in these regions is next to none. She has work on shop floors in both Windsor and Chatham-Kent and is incredibly well connected with the people that can help Manufacturing in both these communities.
In closing I would like to wish you all a Happy Holidays and I look forward to another busy and productive year with EMC in 2011.
Thank You
Jason Bates
