On Wednesday April 14th, 2010 the Windsor Consortiums inaugural Strategic Interest Group Event (SIG) took place…..It was a resounding success! Norm Marcoux and Darryl Dufresne of Advanced Machining Services hosted the event at their very impressive facility located at 3232 Electricity Dr. in Windsor.

The goal of this first event was for members to meet each other, talk about some of the issues they are facing and benchmark/best practice share with each other.

Norm and Darryl from Advanced shared a best practice with the other members. They explained how they very successfully diversified and grew their business into doing work in areas such as the oil & drilling sector. Areas touched on included how they got into a new market, the mistakes the made and what they learnt from them. Also, how they use other talented Windsor manufacturers in their product process.

Members than took an in depth tour of Advanced Machining Services, a very impressive facility. Both their people and product operations were reviewed by the group spending close to 45 minutes on Advanced Shop floor.

After the tour members participated in a group continuous improvement exercise. Each person in attendance was asked to note three things they saw on the tour that they liked ad 3 things they saw that they would question or have suggestions on how to improve.  Our host Advanced Machining got some great outside feedback, it was very easy to identify the things they liked! But true to the "Continuous Improvement" theme of the session the group identified a few areas where improvements could be implemented. These observations are very powerful….they provided the host with some direction on the continuous improvement path, which never ends. Every facility has areas they can improve.

Our next Windsor Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium SIG Event is…….
