EMC Windsor Consortium
As we approach the end of 2011, The Windsor Essex Manufacturing Community continues to rise out of the last few years of adversity. For the consortium members, there is a real enthusiasm and a commitment to accelerate their efforts to strengthen the core characteristics that make this region unique.
The economy in Windsor-Essex region has historically been dominated by the automotive manufacturing and the Tool, Die & Mold sector. This year we have seen more diversification with a variety of non-automotive and industrial manufacturing firms moving into the region, and this has started to have an impact on Benchmarking activities. As a result, the consortium members in the area have opened up to the idea that it is through best practise sharing and learning from each other that they…
Windsor Essex Manufacturers meet to discuss collaborative strategies to improve competitiveness and
The Power of Collaboration...Let by three guest speakers, the Windsor Essex Consortium members and guests look for value in collaboration as a key strategy for growth in the sector.
Ron Gaudet, CEO, Windsor Essex Economic Development Corporation started our morning out by asking participants if "collaboration can lead to a better me?" As part of his message, Mr. Gaudet pointed out that collaboration is not understood or endorsed. Even though unemployment is down from 15.8% to 7.2% in two years and consumer confidence is starting to trend up that we are indeed at a cross road.
We have two choices, to take the well travel road or the path less traveled. The…
Human Resources, Operations and Health & Safety Professionals Meet for an Interactive NEER Calculation Event.
Special thanks to EMC Member, Mahle Filter Systems and Lisa Granger for hosting the first hands-on session for our Members!
We had a great turnout for the first regional event hosted this year. Members and guests came prepared to work with calculator, statements and reports and settled in for some group actvity. The session was led first with an overview for the attendees on the reports and statements that are issued by WSIB, in an effort to establish a base line understanding.
NEER is an…
Sustainability – it’s a hot topic right now. The idea of greening your business has gone beyond the idea of having a recycling program, although that’s a good start.
In Windsor, OCETA organized the event "Sustainability Applied 2011". During the welcome remarks, each attendee was challenged to be moved and inspired to take sustainable actions in your business. In addition to the exciting line-up of speakers and breakout sessions for the day, Kevin Jones, President and CEO of OCETA announced their new launch and branding as Bloom Center for Sustainability or Bloom for short.
For nearly two decades, BLOOM (formerly OCETA) has been working in the public…
Is it possible to predict the outcome of your performance? Windsor Essex SIG Event was indeed a unique approach on an old topic! This special SIG was co-hosted by the Great Lakes Industrial Sales Consortium for some insight and networking on "Predictable Performance".
The May SIG presentation and spirited discussion was led by Bill Seney of Sales Performance 2.0 and I would like to thank both Ron Dzombak and Bill Seney from Sales Performance 2.0, as well as Pamela Breault and Rick Baxter of GLISC for organizing and co-hosting this event with EMC.
I was intrigued by the level of insight there was into how the mind and the beliefs of all of us, dictate and determine performance in all human beings. It impacts our ability to make decisions, build…
Windsor Essex Members have a great turnout for the expanded SIG format introduced this month.
Thanks to Valiant Machine & Tool for hosting this month's event. The topics this month focused around changes to WSIB legislation and Workforce Planning.

- Changes to SIEF award amounts and percentages granted which…
2010 has been a year of steady growth in Windsor Essex
Although manufacturing continues to be a tough sector for many, there has been cautious growth and continued triumph for this community.
It has been a year of struggle and growth in Windsor Essex. As the area continues to re-invent itself, new companies continue to look to the skilled labour and manufacturing know-how of local companies. Many of these companies are EMC members who have ulitized the Strategic Interest Group Events, along with other supportive programs that EMC offers, to continue to thrive and build on their successes.
As with the growth of the manufacturing sector, EMC membership has grown quickly in the 8…

The members of the Windsor Consortium met to discuss just this topic and to find out about tools and resources that are available to support success in this sector.
When asked to describe what the definition of supply chain meant, there were many different responses. After a quick discussion led by Ross Cooper from EMC, it was soon clear to see that the definition is all encompassing. The supply chain is a system of organizations, people, technology, activities, information and resources involved in moving a product or service from supplier to customer. Supply chain activities transform natural resources, raw materials and components in to a finished…
The Windsor Essex Consortium Members had a first hand look at Bonduelle's operation in Tecumseh and got an introduction into the challenges and improvements they have made over the last year.
Our thanks to Bonduelle for hosting this month's fabulous event! Bonduelle, a local leading processor of canned and forzen vegetables, has continued to meet the challenges of manufacturing in today's economic climate. That said, they were perplexed by the challenges of how to engage a workforce and standardize the activities of their supervisory staff while managing the complexities of a noisy environment, cultivating their culture in a workforce that can expand by 500% during peak production…
