The Owen Sound Consortium rotates the networking learning events throughout the region, and April’s events took place at Vintex Inc. in Mount Forest. The HR session enjoyed a presentation by Hicks Morley on Bill 168, followed by the Continuous Improvement session where CI professionals benchmarked and shared best practices and opportunities presented by the host. Many thanks to Marley Carson and Don Jackman for their time and hospitality!
10:00 HR: Hicks Morley provided their presentation on Bill 168. This is continuing to be a challenging piece of legislation for compliance across all EMC consortiums as HR folks are attempting to comply and best handle harassment and violence in the workplace. Much discussion and sharing took place which always creates a great learning opportunity for al in attendance. To view the presentation, please see the link on Owen Sound Consortium page.
12:00 noon: Don Jackman, Director of Operations for Vintex Inc. provided an overview of the business and core competencies, followed by Process Specialist Todd White who provided an overview of their CI initiatives. Lots of changes have taken place with the evolution of KPIs and continuous improvement programs over the last couple of years, and it was evident on the shop floor.
Following the tour, debrief discussion touched on the following points that became valuable benchmarking opportunities:
- Visual factory opportunities
- 5S challenges
- Increasing throughput opportunities
- Machine Guarding
- Inventory Management Challenges
- Culture development
The next Owen Sound region events are June 23. Mark this in your calendar!
