The EMC Owen Sound Region consortium conducts two Strategic Interest Groups every month for Human Resources and Continuous Improvement. The HR groups are topic based, while the CI group focuses on benchmarking lean initiatives and best practices, and also some problem solving for the host.
Transcontinental Printing/RBW Graphics in Owen Sound hosted the June 24 <sup>th</sup> 2009 events following a busy week of open house celebrations. EMC members from the region came together for the Human Resources and Continuous Improvement SIG Networking events!
Human Resources: This month was the scheduled presentation from Hicks-Morley on legal updates for our HR members. Amy Tibble of Hicks-Morley prepared a detailed update of some of the latest details impacting the legislation that governs due diligence in the HR function.

Continuous Improvement: Bill Sheppard of Transcontinental Printing hosted what will be his last EMC event as he prepares for his retirement! Bill prepared an overview of RBW's continuous improvement initiatives including their 5S program. The group was asked to look for ideas of interest to take away, as well as suggestions for improvement. The discussion included but was not limited to the following points:
- Internal Safety and Environmental Hotline procedures
- Management barriers and constraints
- Metrics communication
- 5S certification deployment
- 5S auditing procedures
- Change-over SOP's
- Stock rotation strategies
- Inventory and raw material mgt strategies
- Waste mgt
- Cross-shift communication and consistency strategies
