The Owen Sound members of EMC had a busy year in 2009 networking and benchmarking best practices. They are leveraging this knowledge to improve their businesses in these tough economic times. Your manufacturing community continues to be a rich resource. Those businesses that choose to leverage this venue to examine how your company could be doing things differently and better have a huge advantage over those that do not! Congratulations to those EMC members in the Owen Sound region!
The Owen Sound consortium continued to focus Human Resources and Continuous Improvement SIG events in 2009. The HR events are topic driven, and topics ranged from benchmarking employee morale strategies, wellness strategies, legal updates with hicks Morley, recognition programs, and pandemic planning. These involved guest speakers from Hicks Morley and the Grey-Bruce Health Unit.
The Continuous Improvement SIG format involves the host company providing an overview of their business model with a focus on core competencies and best practices followed by a tour. Before the tour, members are asked:
- To provide feedback on something they liked and an idea they will take away to their own facility
- To provide a suggestion for improvement for the host on any of the areas they have seen.
The debrief portion of this event turns into rich discussion of ideas and suggestions and themes that are at the root of manufacturing success. Members have an open forum to exchange their ideas, ask questions of other members, offer suggestions, and probe solutions to their own problems with other manufacturers.
2010 promises to be even better with the addition of a bi-monthly focus on Health & Safety SIG with the engagement of some resources from the EMC WSIB Safety Group to add value and knowledge to the sessions. These are for all EMC members regardless of which WSIB safety group you may belong. The schedule is now complete for 2010! Please have a look on our consortium page!
