Energizer Hosts a Great Day of Networking for Owen Sound Region Manufacturers!

By April 29, 2009

The EMC Owen Sound Region consortium conducts two Strategic Interest Groups every month for Human Resources and Continuous Improvement. The HR groups are topic based, while the CI group focuses on benchmarking lean initiatives and best practices, and also some problem solving for the host.

Event Summary, April 22:

Human Resources: The HR topic was a Benchmarking Exercise for members to share and compare best practices on how members manage employee morale in today's economy. A wide variety of practices and strategies were shared between members.

Guest speaker Jeff Suchak from Mental Health Works presented to the group about their training programs that are available to employers about understanding and managing mental health in the workplace. Since odds are all of us will either know someone or ourselves be struck by mental illness sometime in our lives, creating this awareness within our cultures remains very important to sustain a health workforce. For any more information regarding Jeff's presentation, please contact Mike Baker: mbaker@emccanada.org.

Continuous Improvement: Many thanks to Lisa Wells and Peter Kloostra of Energizer Canada for leading the CI session for members. Peter and Lisa provided an overview of the Energizer CI strategy, followed by a tour. Discussion and feedback captured many themes of CI including 5S, pull systems, through-put, resource and manpower utilization, racking and storage, accountability systems, employee communication, among many others. For further details of this session, please respond to this blog or contact Mike Baker.

Yours in Networking,

Mike Baker, EMC
