The EMC Owen Sound Region consortium conducts two Strategic Interest Groups every month for Human Resources and Continuous Improvement. The HR groups are topic based, while the CI group focuses on benchmarking lean initiatives and best practices, and also some problem solving for the host.

Caframo Ltd in Wiarton is the manufacturer of small fans and chemical mixers for the consumer and educational/medical markets. Not only is Caframo holding their own in the days of cheaper products from overseas, they are thriving and improving, and hosted the EMC events May 27, 2009.

Human Resources: The HR group discussed Wellness programs and participated in a presentation from Leah Warner from Employer's Edge. Employer's Edge is a wellness consulting company that provides a structured format for employers to develop and roll-out wellness programs through engagement of Sr Management through to hourly employees.

Members benchmarked with each other what they have in place and best practices were shared.  If you are interested in info from the presentation please contact Mike Baker.

Continuous Improvement: The over-all impression from the group was 'lots of changes and improvements!" Following a presentation by Scott Cruikshank about Caframo's business and manufacturing processes, the group was provided a tour. Following the tour, the debrief focused on suggestions for improvement, and ideas to take away. Here are some of the points discussed and shared by the group. But this is not meant to substitute for attending! Don't miss the next events June 24 th hosted by Transcontinental Printing!
