EMC Owen Sound Consortium
In retrospect, 2011 was a dynamic year of learning for local EMC members with two SIGs taking place every time they met: Human Resources and Continuous Improvement.
On November 23, 2011 Owen Sound mayor Deb Haswell addressed the SR managers group to discuss the city's current strategies and to get to know local industry on a personal level as she continues her first year as mayor. This forum led to some good, candid discussion aboutmanufacturing needs in the area and what local municipal governments need to do to retain the industry they have. This constructive forum will continue to take place every year with EMC members and also on an as-needed basis.

Bellwyck Packaging Hosts Return to Work Expertise and Continuous Improvement Focus
On Sept 28, Bellwyck Packaging in Owen Sound hosted subject matter expertise on the role of health professionals with return to work programs, and continuous improvement focus on quality inspection tracking! A great day of networking and learning for EMC members!
Human Resources and Health & Safety professionals enjoyed a value-added presentation from Glen Brannen of Focus Workplace, part of EMC's 360 Environmental, Health & Safety program. Glen's presentation was informative and informal so lots of questions and discussion took place as members increased their knowledge and understanding of how to best deal with health care professionals when managing return to work programs.

Owen Sound Region Consortium adopts focused CI events to help solve problems on the shop floor!
Recently the Owen Sound EMC consortium adopted a new approach to the CI sessions!
Rather than simply a plant tour with open discussion feedback, the host provides the background on a specific problem to solve prior to the event. This information is included in the agenda so visiting members can get a good understanding of the challenge ahead of time. It also allows members to reflect and prepare on how to get the most from the session to take back to their own buildings.

The Owen Sound region EMC consortium events for November 24, 2010 were hosted by Caframo Ltd in Wiarton. Caframo continues to perform as a world-class manufacturing facility in an ever-changing marketplace! Many thanks to Dale Schnurr and his team for hosting two value-laden networking events: Human Resources (MSD Strategies) and Continuous Improvement (Change Management).
