Corporate Audits can now be used in place of the WSIB HSMS audit

Firms can request to use other HSMS audits (example: Corporate Audits) for the 2012 Advantage Program if the audit criteria meet the WSIB HSMS Review Form. The firm must send the requested audit and the completed Audit Equivalency Form to their Safety Group Program Sponsor for their review and initial approval. Safety Group 2012 program.

WSIB held their spring time sponsors meeting for the Safety Group program on May 5th 2011. The purpose of the meeting was to explain the changes that have been happening at the WSIB and begin the marketing of the Safety Group program for the 2012 year.  Though the most prevention initiatives are being shifted to the MoL the safety group program will be continuing and is being fully endorsed by WSIB. In February 2010 the pilot program was launched with 11 manufacturers. The goal of this group is to establish a pro active approach focusing on the safety management system CSA Z1000. The manufacturers are focusing their efforts on the reduction of injuries frequency and severity through the system and culture change driven by the Canadian Safety system.

With a plan, do, check, act approach the manufactures have concentrated on hazard identification and control, legal compliance and setting appropriate goals and targets. The approach taken by CSA Z1000 mimics many of the quality management systems already in place in the manufacturer's facilities.  By concentrating their efforts on altering these existing systems to include safety many of the manufacturers are able to make the shift to this system simple and relatively painless.
