Over 65 people from 45 London/Oxford Manufacturing companies took part in a "Lean Thinking Review" lead buy Bob Cook, Plant Manager of Keiper Automotive.
We talked about "lean and lean implementation basic's" which was a great refresher for some members and totally new to others. Members walked out of this event very excited and motivated to return to there facilities and start taking on some on the CI projects they have planned for 2010.
An interesting new twist that Mr. Cook threw out to the group was the "Ten Commandments of Lean"….
- Throw out old, tired production method concepts.
- Don't think of reasons why it won't work, think of ways to make it work.
- Don't make excuses, just deal with current conditions
- Don't wait for perfection; 50% is fine for starters each time.
- Correct mistakes immediately. Correct mistakes immediately.
- Improvements should not be costly.
- Ask "why" at least five times until you find the real problem.
- Wisdom arises from difficulties.
- Better the "wisdom" of ten people than the "knowledge" of one.
- Improvements are unlimited.
It all comes down to committing to lean, lean thinking and lean implementation and it all starts with 5S! The group reviewed 5S and discussed how and where to start and why it is so important!
After this very comprehensive and in-depth overview was complete the group than participated in a plant tour and Continuous Improvement exercise where everyone picked out 3 things they saw that they liked and 3 things they saw that they had suggestions on how to improve.
The presentation delivered by Kieper and Bob Cook is posted on the London/Oxford & MWO Consortiums home page for you review.
This session was a great start to 2010 in London/Oxford and MWO. Please review the 2010 SIG schedule posted on the London/Oxford and MWO Consortiums home pages. It is a very full schedule full of great SIG activity in the region. I look forward to seeing you all out at the SIG's throughout the year!
Thanks
