An Informal way to ask other Members in your Consortium for Input.....

Most of the Members in London/Oxford Region have seen the “Local Member Needs Help” inquires I send out every so often. This is a informal ad-hoc way for Members to get a local take on issues/questions specifically pertaining to their particular region/consortium.

This has turned out to be a very powerful tool members are using to get a local take on issues and answers to questions. What it is used for is if you need to know something that other manufacturers in the Region specifically are doing rather than a question that would be more appropriate for the wider reaching "Member Needs Help". These are questions posed to all EMC Members across Ontario & Eastern Canada. They are questions you see sent to you every Tuesday from the EMC Office which can be accessed here;

This "Local Member Needs Help" is not meant to take away from the very powerful "Member Needs Help" service you have access to through the EMC Webpage. If your question is better suited for the larger "Member Needs Help" service I will direct you to it.

For the "Local Member Needs Help" send me the inquiry and I will send it out to the Local Consortium of Members, send it to me at;

jbates@emccanda.org

Local Member Needs Help topics have included (these are just a few);

-        Help finding a local doctor to do medical

-        Finding a local company that recycles computer & computer parts

-        What local companies are offer as far as benefits

-        Local Wage Surveys

-        Vendor questions

-        Local IT support

At the April Oxford SIG session focusing on Continuous Improvement/Purchasing the group thought it was a good idea to use the "Local Member Needs Help" to source items that are needed asap or that they might not meet minimum purchase requirements from their vendor. For example it you need a chuck of steel, or a cutting tool, or whatever. Let me know what you are looking for and I will send the request out to the other members who may use that particular item. Once it is identified that another member has what you are looking for I will bring them together to see if they can work something out.

To end this off here is a great example of how "Local Member Needs Help" can get you out of a jam;

I had a question last week from a member looking for some help with a form they needed to have in their trucks. Their truck had been taken off the road for not having this particular form so they needed help quickly to get the truck back on the road. I sent out the request for copies of the form other members use…. Within 10 minutes I had 5 replies with copies of the forms they used. I sent them to the member who made the request and they got their truck back on the road that day!

That is great example of EMC Members in a local Consortium working together!

Feel free to post any comments below.

Thanks

Jason
