FACT:
With an aging workforce and declining birthrate, Canada’s entire net labour growth will come from immigration in less than three years. London/Oxford employers are facing increased competition with other businesses throughout the province, across the nation and around the globe for this pool of international talent. At the same time, the skill sets of internationally trained individuals or skilled trades persons are being underutilized.

On Wednesday June 30th London/Oxford EMC Members got a peak at how they are going to find employee's in the near future……..They also had the opportunity to lean what resources are available in the Community to help them find their workers of the future.

On April 28th London EMC Member Trojan Technologies did an amazing job of sharing one of their best practices at this SIG event. They detailed their Kanban/Inventory Management Systems for the group.
Trojan were able to increase their inventory turns from 4 to 12 with the implimentation of this program.

On March 31st in London Southwestern Ontario EMC Members participated in a very high impact special event! Four EMC Member companies presented on how they overcame the recent economic challenges and have poised themselves for future success. On Tuesday February 16th the London/Oxford Consortium of Excellence in Manufacturer had a great SIG lead by guest presenters Deloitte Southwestern Ontario.

Topics touched on included;

Growth, Efficiency and Risk……While every organization must choose its own path, there are business imperatives you must embrace in this new reality; investing in growth, driving efficiency and managing risk.

 

Corporate Income Tax Rates

Substantively enacted provisions;

-          Reduction of general rate to 15%, which will be phased in from 19% in 2009 to 15% in 2012.

-          Federal government request collaboration of provinces to each reduce their tax rates to 10%.

On Wednesday January 27th the London/Oxford Consortium came out in great numbers for a Continuous Improvement SIG session hosted by Keiper Automotive in London. 2009 has been another great year for the London/Oxford Consortium of Excellence in Manufacturing. The Consortium experienced some incredible growth this year with the addition of 20 new member companies.

2009 has been another great year for the London/Oxford Consortium of Excellence in Manufacturing. The Consortium experienced some incredible growth this year with the addition of 20 new member companies.

On Wednesday October 28th at the North London Community Centre the London/Oxford Consortium along with the Midwestern Ontario Consortium joined together for a very special SIG Event in conjunction with the London Regional Manufacturing Council. This special SIG Event featured the Ontario Ministry of Labour presenting the “Safe at Work Ontario” Program. This also counted as one of the EMC Safety Groups mandatory session for 2009 if your company is part of the Safety Group.

For this session we were pleased to welcome the Ontario Ministry of Labour.

The Ministry of Labour provided the group with an overview of what they will be focusing on now and in the future pertaining to manufacturing.

On Wednesday September 30th the London Consortium partook in a great Continuous Improvement SIG Session at Attica Manufacturing in London. This event was an incredible success with over 55 London Manufacturing Companies in attendance. The London Free Press also came out to this session to find out how over 65 London Manufacturing Companies are working together in a Consortium to help benefit everyone! They also did a great story on the recent successes of Attica which was featured on the front page of the Business Section.
