On March 3rd the Hamilton/St. Catharines/Niagara consortium will be hosting a special Supply Chain SIG.  From speaking with our members we have come to realize they have questions about what supply chain is, why it matters and what they can do to help their suppliers.  This SIG is designed to help you and your organization learn more about Supply Chain Management and how you can improve the Supply Chain in your organization.

The goal of this session is to provide you with an introduction to Supply Chain Management; explain what you need to know about Supply Chain and talk about the how organizations have helped their suppliers with lean and thought of them as part of the value stream of their product/process as well as Challenges in Supply Chain including - who is managing who?  Some questions to think about: How much time have you given to thinking about the supply chain in your organization?  How many people in your organization are directly involved in supply chain activity?  What does lean and supply chain really mean and how can you link them in your workplace?

Bios of guest speakers:

Kevin Maynard - Kevin Maynard joined the Canadian Supply Chain Sector Council as Executive Director in June 2006. He led the Council through its infancy to completion of its first two research projects in July 2007. As the Council continues its growth - currently in the midst of four HRSDC-funded projects and numerous other stakeholder-led projects - Kevin leads an enthusiastic team of staff members, project managers and consultants. Throughout his tenure at the Council, he has focused his efforts in the key areas identified in a 2005 sector study as requiring action, namely partnership development amongst stakeholders, career awareness with linkages to recruitment, retention and engagement strategies, the provision of meaningful labour market information, and the support of a learning system that enhances professionalism and functional excellence in the sector.  He graduated from University of Windsor in 1985 with an Honours degree in Political Science, with a specialty in Public Administration, and has professional CAE certification from the Canadian Society of Association Executives.

Corey Turnbull - Corey has held various positions within the Supply Chain at two "traditional" production facilities while working to improve efficiency and reduce waste. After 13 years, he moved into a Department Supervisor Role where he supervised 35 people and 5 cost centers with a strong focus on Lean Management and Improvement.  After 15 1/2 years, he left 3M and moved to Trillium HealthCare products (a contract pharmaceutical manufacturer) as the Supply Chain Supervisor. In his current role he focuses on Master Sales and Forecast planning while supervising the Planners and Buyers with a focus on implementing Lean. His background has been very evenly split between production and supply chain with a real focus on analysis and continuous improvement. He will talk about how he came in at what he considers the last of the "Old Ways", and have watched the markets no longer change, but react to companies like Walmart. He uses change and react as descriptions. He will discuss Challenges in Supply Chain including - who is managing who? Customers or vendors?

Marcus Vandenburg - Marcus has worked at Raymond Industrial for the past 13 years in such varied roles as Value Analyst and Quality Manager.  Marcus has extensive knowledge of the Toyota Production System and worked very closely with Raymond's key suppliers in making sure they understood and implemented concepts such as 5S, value stream mapping and one-piece flow.  Marcus will speak on how Raymond worked with their suppliers to improve the supply chain.
