Well, not just for the food! Cavendish Appetizers in Wheatly, Ontario, hosts their first event with rave reviews! As organizations continue to be challenged to do less with more, the Cavendish Appetizer Team has found a way to make it work and this session focused on sharing their discoveries on building a world class safety system with their fellow Consortium Members.
An eclectic group of manufacturers met in April to get a glimpse of the safety system that Cavendish Appetizers had used to propel their safety initiatives while continuing to meet the aggressive targets for production and manpower utilization. Chatham Kent EMC Members Look to Energy Conservation to "Fuel" their Business Needs
During the warm spell in March, everyone was turning down their thermostats, opening the doors and windows and enjoying the early summer-like weather. How appropriate that the Chatham Kent EMC members met with other manufacturers in the area to discuss Energy Conservation.

Member companies gathered to take an in-depth look at the review process of the SR&ED program and how Canadian manufacturers can prepare for a SR&ED review.
Tilbury, ON, EMC members quickly got to the discussion of what is really impacting each of their organizations when it comes to the review process when claiming SR & ED. Most feel that the claims process is getting more and more difficult as the program matures. Changes in the interpretation of claimable costs and allowable activities really puts some organizations in a difficult position as most do not have full-time resources solely dedicated to understanding and working on SR&ED.

The Accessibility for Ontarian's with Disabilities Act (AODA), 2005, requires public and private sector organizations to comply with mandatory standards that remove and prevent barriers to accessibility for people with disabilities.
Special thanks go out to EMC Members Shari Blackburn at Batory Industries, along with Elise Marentette from Anchor Danly, for leading the discussion about the requirements of the standard.
As with many members across the province, understanding the standard and its applicability to the manufacturing sector is a stretch. Chatham-Kent EMC Members De-Mystify SR&ED at GreenField Ethanol
The Canadian Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax credit program awards over $3 billion each year in reimbursements to Canadian businesses to cover costs related to research and development. The objective of this federal program is to encourage businesses to conduct research and development (R&D) to improve the competitiveness of Canadian businesses in the global marketplace.
Special "thanks" goes out to EMC Member GreenField Ethanol for hosting this month's event. GreenField has been producing industrial and beverage alcohol, fuel ethanol and distillers' grains for 20 years. Chatham has one of only three dry mill continuous ethanol producing plants in North America. The facility is uniquely capable of alternating between fuel and industrial ethanol production.

Amid Economic downturns, cautious growth and recovery, many manufacturers in the region continue to focus on maintaining and improving their core business, while looking for expansion opportunities in different markets and sectors.
This year, the Member Companies of Chatham Kent have continued to participate in SIG events, networking and getting to know each other. What has been discovered, like in so many other communities, is the challenges we face as manufacturers are common and we all have something to learn from each other. For many, the opportunity to meet with other companies has been enlightening and we are all looking forward to more informative events for 2011.
