Too often Lean is seen as an isolated program that despite positive results does not sustain itself. "Employee Engagement in Continuous Improvement" answers the question – “How do we sustain Lean and transfer Lean thinking to our daily work practices?" Companies that systematically engage their people in eliminating waste, improving productivity and reducing costs are finding that they are more competitive and able to reap immediate financial and operational benefits.
Our guest speaker, Bruce Craig, discussed the topic of creating and maintaining a lean culture with a great group of participants. We talked about how employee engagement fits into the mix and discussed ways to sustain Lean and transfer Lean thinking to our daily work practices. The rewards are significant: companies that are engaged in Continuous Improvement are finding that they are more competitive.
A great discussion took place with some of the following comments/thoughts:
- I didn't make a mistake, I learned something that didn't work
- Build trust by giving people information
- How do leaders engage people and how do they sustain this?
- Inefficiency denial - the hurdle is getting people to acknowledge they have a problem
- Some of the keys are: measure it and share it as well as constantly communicating!
- Is the office the most resistant to change? WHY? Is it because it's less visible and less measurable?
