Prima Klean was the host for our Brantford April SIG.  We had a great opportunity to discuss managing multiple tasks and time management.  Then we went into their warehouse and discussed the key steps to starting 5S.

Time Management and Managing Multiple roles

We discussed two of the challenges mentioned by Senior Managers -how to manage multiple roles and time management strategies.

Some questions we discussed were:

What is the task that you need to allocate more time to?

What strategies do you use to manage your multiple roles?  Which ones do you find to be most effective?

What is your biggest time waster?  Why do you think it is your biggest time waster?  How could you use this time more efficiently?
What role do you have that you are least proficient at?  Is there someone else you could delegate that to?

 Some suggestions included:

-          Know the skills of all your people - are you using them all to their full potential?  (remember underutilized people is often considered the 8th waste in lean)

-          Good managers golf

-          Give your employees ownership

-          Don't micro manager

Continuous Improvement - Where to start with 5S

Prima Klean is a unique EMC member, they provide cleaning services to a variety of industries.  One of their new areas of focus is on selling cleaning supplies to these industries.  The area where they store these cleaning supplies needs to be organized and sorted out.  During this SIG we toured the warehouse and help them 5S this area.

 We talked about:

 -          What are the important things to know when starting 5S?

-          How do you suggest involving employees in this process?

-          What things didn't work when you started your CI journey?

Thanks again to Prima Klean for hosting this great event. For more information on the Brantford and Region SIGs and other happenings, please contact Laura Gibson, Field Service Advisor by e-mail at lgibson@emccanada.org or by phone at 226-388-3894.
